NEW! Vanilla Bean Macchiato at Starbucks

Just over a month ago I reviewed Starbucks' new Honey Blossom Macchiato, but I must admit that I've not visited the chain since. It's not for lack of want, I'm just ensuring that my student loan lasts me through until October and I can keep contributing towards the mortgage!

When I reviewed the Honey Blossom Macchiato I mentioned that the Vanilla Bean version also appealed, and so whilst meeting my sister for a catch up this morning I took the opportunity to try it, and see how it compared.

"For all Vanilla lovers this new addition to our Macchiatos is the perfect pick with layers of milk, espresso and vanilla flavour being topped with a creamy vanilla bean sauce."

The Barista was extremely generous with the sauce, spending a good thirty seconds or more decorating my coffee -at least I was getting my money's worth! I was impressed that the vanilla seeds were visible on top of the foam, adding to its authenticity. The only issue I have, is that it would look more appetising served in a latte glass as per the photos in Starbucks' adverts?

The foam layer was a good inch thick, and was pillowy soft and sweet thanks to the vanilla sauce. Please reassure me that I'm not the only one to ask for a spoon to savour the froth separately? Anyway, that's what I did, and I enjoyed every scrummy spoonful.

The coffee itself was well balanced. I find that Starbucks coffee is robust enough to be drunk as a latte/cappuccino/macchiato without losing the caffeine kick. The sweetness from the milk and the vanilla syrup worked well with the espresso, resulting in a coffee that tasted deliciously indulgent. The Vanilla Bean Macchiato had less prominent layers than the Honey version, but that may be just because I gave it a good stir with my spoon.

If you're a fan of Starbucks' Caramel Macchiato or Vanilla Latte, I implore you to give their new Vanilla Bean Macchiato a try. The Honey version has a bolder flavour, but the Vanilla is equally as tasty.

As a final note, I'd just like to comment on how friendly and welcoming the Baristas in my local Starbucks were this morning. The coffee shop was busy, yet the tables were clean and the staff made conversation. So often we complain about bad service, but this was quite the opposite.

NEW! Honey Blossom Macchiato at Starbucks

I don't regularly review drinks, but I thought I'd make an exception for the new Starbucks Honey Blossom Macchiato. It's not often that I visit Starbucks (purely for monetary reasons) but when I fancy a treat (or I'm in dire need of caffeine and sugar at Uni) then their Caramel Macchiato is my coffee of choice.

Starbucks have recently added two new Macchiato flavours to their menu: Honey Blossom & Vanilla Bean. Both sounded right up my alley, but as I'm finally seeing off the lingering remnants of flu, I decided that the Honey version would do my throat more good.

'Starbucks® is now offering another edition of the signature Macchiato: inspired by natural ingredients the Honey Blossom Macchiato combines the sweet honey flavor with vanilla and coffee.'

Luckily the Barista must've heard my feeble coughing, because he slathered my drink in Honey Sauce. I say it was lucky, because the moment the froth reached my lips I was met with the rich comforting sweetness. The foam top was fluffy and sweet, which worked well with the bitter coffee beneath. I couldn't taste much honey in the drink itself, until I reached the bottom -where I discovered a pool of distinctly flavoured coffee.

(Check out that drizzle!)

I enjoyed the new Honey Blossom Macchiato, and it makes a welcome change to the original Caramel version. Some may find the taste too sweet, but it's no more so than the Caramel Macchiato, and I appreciated the honey's more natural flavour.

I'll look forward to my next Starbucks treat, when no doubt I'll try the new Vanilla Bean Macchiato!

NEW Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha at ASDA

I was just picking up a carton of milk when some lovely red festive packaging caught my eye on the shelf above. Next to the regular iced Starbucks coffees was this new Christmas edition- White Chocolate Mocha. It seems an odd time of year to release an iced coffee, but it did sound good so I thought I'd try it out: white chocolate and coffee are two of my favourite commodities after all!

First off, rather stupidly, I was taken aback by the colour -expecting it to be look similar to the white chocolate 'Options' drink- but of course, it's fundamentally coffee and so looked more like a Latte.

The taste was super sweet, but lacking the distinctive flavour of white chocolate... Or any kind of chocolate to be honest. The coffee element was nice enough, but it was just a sugary standard iced latte. I drank it in a bit of hurry, so perhaps I didn't give it a chance by lending enough time to properly enjoy it, but I probably won't buy it again.
Disappointing Starbucks!
